Greater New Hope Church Invests in Comfort, Safety, and Savings

When Greater New Hope Church & Ministries moved into a new 9,000-square-foot building 14 years ago, they knew renovations would be part of the journey. After all, when you’re focused on serving and strengthening your community, investing in the future is part of the mission.

The Opportunity

As responsible stewards of their congregation’s contributions, Greater New Hope Church always kept affordability top of mind. So when it came time to upgrade their lighting and HVAC systems, Delmarva Power’s Small Business program and Small Business Energy Advance interest-free repayment option helped make those improvements possible.

The Upgrades

The church’s project included four new HVAC systems, helping make offices, corridors, and fellowship spaces more comfortable for members and visitors. Interior lighting was also upgraded throughout the building.

But perhaps the most noticeable improvement was the new exterior LED lighting, which created a brighter parking lot and improved safety for those coming and going after dark.

With more than 70% of project costs covered through incentives, the church was able to finance the remaining balance at 0% interest over two years. Even better, payments were conveniently included on their monthly Delmarva Power electric bill.

The Results

Through their partnership with Delmarva Power, local Service Providers were able to make meaningful improvements for both the church’s congregation and the community. The upgrades not only reduced immediate operational risks but also set the building up for long-term stability and savings.

Plus, the savings allowed the church to move forward with other projects sooner, including new signage and lighting in front of their building.

The EmPOWER Maryland charge funds programs that can help you reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and save you money. Since the inception of the EmPOWER Maryland program in 2008, the programs have saved $14.5 billion on installed measures at a cost of $4.1 billion. In addition to new program costs, this charge includes paying off the uncollected costs that were accrued over time by programs required by the EmPOWER statute and authorized by the Commission. In accordance with House Bill 864 the uncollected amounts will be fully paid by the end of 2032.
