Gymnastics Center Flips for New Lighting Upgrades

Lighting is often overlooked, but for Island Gymnastics in Grasonville, dim fluorescent bulbs posed safety risks and costly maintenance challenges. Built in the early ’90s, the facility relied on outdated fixtures that required shutting down operations to replace burnt-out tubes—an impractical solution for a seven-day-a-week business.

The Opportunity

With nearly 40% of its fluorescent tubes underperforming, owners Rita and Mike DeCesare sought a cost-effective way to upgrade lighting. They turned to Delmarva Power’s Small Business program for incentives and guidance.

The Upgrades

Through the program’s Service Provider network, Island Gymnastics installed 51 DLC premium LED lights, including high bay, panel, and wall pack fixtures with network controls. The project was completed in just seven days, minimizing disruption.

The Results

The new lighting improved safety, reduced maintenance downtime, and delivered noticeable visual enhancements—families even thought the gym had been repainted. Energy savings and lower costs make the upgrade a win for both the business and its members.
