Small Business Quick Energy Check-ups

Quick Energy Check-ups (QEC) are complimentary for our small business customers. One of our approved Service Providers will visit your business, help you better understand your energy usage, make energy-saving recommendations, and install up to $250 worth of energy-efficient devices at no additional cost.

A Quick Energy Check-up is the perfect first step for small businesses that want to start saving energy but are not sure where to begin.

During your check-up, an approved Service Provider will:

  • Perform a basic inspection of your business
  • Prepare a report that outlines your energy usage
  • Make recommendations for energy-saving upgrades
  • Explain the incentives available to help pay for those upgrades
  • Install up to $250 worth of energy-efficient equipment upgrades at no additional cost

 

Complimentary upgrades may include:

  • Turning on energy-saving features of your electronic devices
  • Installing signs to remind employees to turn off lights when not in use
  • Setting water heater thermostats to an appropriate, energy-saving temperature*
  • Installing timers on water coolers
  • Insulating exposed water heater and refrigerant pipes
  • Replacing worn weather stripping on exterior doors
  • Using caulk and spray foam to reduce air infiltration

The EmPOWER Maryland charge funds programs that can help you reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and save you money. Since the inception of the EmPOWER Maryland program in 2008, the programs have saved $14.5 billion on installed measures at a cost of $4.1 billion. In addition to new program costs, this charge includes paying off the uncollected costs that were accrued over time by programs required by the EmPOWER statute and authorized by the Commission. In accordance with House Bill 864 the uncollected amounts will be fully paid by the end of 2032.
